Description
A turntable unit/motor unit using a large gunmetal turntable.
The RX-5000 uses a string drive system for its drive system, and does not have a rotation mechanism on its own. For this reason, the RY-5500, a motor unit for the string drive system, is required.
The turntable is made of gunmetal (an alloy of 85% copper, 15% tin, etc.), a material with high internal loss, and achieves high inertia with a weight of 16 kg and a moment of inertia of 2,700 kg/cm2.
Since the structure is designed to place the record directly on the turntable, there is a significant improvement in the playback sound quality in terms of positioning, resolution, distortion, etc. compared to using a rubber sheet. In addition, the stiffness of the record is increased, improving the responsiveness of the needle tip to the sound groove.
In addition, the sound quality can be further improved by using the ST-10 disc stabilizer in combination.
The turntable shaft is a 16 mm diameter stainless steel shaft.
After undergoing heat hardening and polishing, this shaft is wrapped in a pair with a bearing to give it a mirror finish. In addition, the bearing side that comes into contact with the shaft surface uses a special alloy bearing, and as the shaft rotates, lead molecules are evenly precipitated in the oil film, resulting in a structure that maintains very smooth rotation.
The end of the shaft uses a ceramic ball that is highly hard and has excellent wear resistance. The space between the shaft and the bearing is filled with oil in an oil bath, so there is no oil shortage, and the damping effect on the resonance caused by the rotation of the turntable is also great, improving the overall signal-to-noise ratio.
The shaft mechanism is stored in a large housing, and the housing is attached to the frame by tightening it using a large nut.
Aramid is used for the thread that transmits rotation to the turntable.
This material has high tensile strength and low elongation at break, making it the best choice for drive threads. The thread is made of 134 12.1μ fibers twisted together, and has a tensile strength of 24.5 kg.
In addition, the effect is even greater if the thread is made into a 40-strand braid.
The frame that supports the rotation mechanism is made of zinc for strength, and the total weight, including the brass legs, is 22.2 kg.
